There’s a lot of information out there about how to market your business. In fact, there’s so much information that it ends up making the whole thing seem really rather complicated. It can seem like all the modern marketing techniques have turned marketing your business into a whole separate industry.
But that doesn’t always need to be the way. Not only can it be complicated, time-consuming and sometimes frustrating. Sometimes it might not even be the most effective way to market your company.
Sometimes the old ways really are the best ways. It might sound like a cliche, but it’s true. Here are some simple, yet extremely effective techniques that you should be using to market your business.
Network
You know what the simplest method of letting people know about your business is? Talking to them. Shocking, I know! Events are great ways to network with other companies and potential clients. Don’t obsess over your marketing technique. Just talk to people.
Let them know how passionate you are about your business and show them why they should be interested. Forget all the techniques that you think you should be using and just communicate with people. They’ll be much more receptive to what you’re saying that way than if you’re just spewing out marketing buzzwords at them.
Flyers
So few businesses use this method anymore, and that’s simply ridiculous. Flyers are a fantastic way to reach out to potential customers and provide simple information about your business. The important thing about flyers is that they look professional. If your business attends a lot of industry events and conferences, flyers can boost your marketing efforts.
No customer is going to be interested in something that looks like it was designed on MS Paint. Make sure that your leaflets are well designed and printed so that your customers will take notice. There are lots of great free flyer maker tools out there that you can use to create slick, professional-looking flyers.
Giveaways
Here’s a universal fact of life: people love free stuff. Hardly groundbreaking as a concept but it sure is effective for marketing. Whether it’s free samples of your product or prizes as part of a promotional campaign. Giving stuff away not only gives customers a taste of what you have to offer but also creates a sense of loyalty.
Customers come to associate you with the enjoyment they got from your giveaway. They think of you positively so when the time comes that they need a product that you provide, you’re going to be fresh in their minds. This is especially effective if the thing that you’re giving away is effectively branded.
Good old traditional advertising
With the advent of SEO and content marketing, a lot of companies assume traditional advertising is dead. Not true. You’ve just got to be smart about it. Look at the most successful recent advertising campaigns.
They all serve to connect with the emotions of the customers even before they market the product. Make your advertisements clever and punchy. Whether they’re funny or heartwarming, make sure you’re hitting the customers in their emotions. This will help them to engage with your product even before they’ve realized what it is.

I have to disagree with you on point 2 – flyers. I believe that the potential customer is not interested in them any more. He is too focused on everything digital. Everywhere I go, people are connected to their smartphones, tablets, laptops and e-readers. It is a little sad actually. Maybe something really extraordinary will catch their attention, in regards to flyers. What we should really do is go with the flow and invest most of our advertising budget in online marketing.
